“Why do I feel so anxious in my relationships?”

“What’s the point? I feel so lost and empty!”

“Why do I still have imposter syndrome even though I’m considered ‘successful’?”

If you’re struggling with any of these questions, do know that Trauma and experiences can add up over time, and our past can continue to affect the present in ways we might not understand.

So… no, there’s nothing wrong with you. And there’s certainly nothing wrong with seeking support when you need it most.

Over the years, clients have shown me that we don’t need to let our past traumas and current stressors take a toll on our lives.

Through specialised therapy, you can break the cycle and find yourself again.

If that sounds like something you’re keen to do, I hope to be on this journey with you.

What is Schema Therapy?

If I had to explain Schema Therapy without using clinical language… Think of it this way:

We all have beliefs that we pick up over time. It might come from the way people treated you when you were younger, or the environment you grew up in.

Some of these beliefs might sound like I’m never going to be good enough” or “Everyone leaves eventually”.

Schema Therapy is basically exploring those beliefs, the associated memories, and processing them in therapy so you can change how you’re feeling or behaving.

Here are some situations where people have found therapy useful:

  • Always picking partners who aren’t “right” for you
  • Strong imposter syndrome
  • Getting really angry or sad and not knowing why
  • Struggling to trust people and/or chronic loneliness
  • Feeling like you have to be perfect or people won’t like you
Some of the techniques include:
  • Imagery rescripting
  • Empty chair work
  • Behavioural experimenting
  • Mode mapping (a little like “parts work”)
TL;DR: Schema Therapy supports you in understanding why you think and feel that way, and then guides you through processes to make that change.
